Road Trip - Ideas Welcome!!!

Well everyone. This is it. The wife and I are packing up the ankle biter and leaving Richmond, VA in June. Destination, Southern California. We have both always wanted to do the cross country drive, and now is the time! The first stop on our route will be Memphis, where we'll pick up Interstate 40 for the stretch West. Tentative stopovers include Oklahoma City, Albuquerque (or Santa Fe), and Flagstaff before finally finishing up in the ocean south of Los Angeles somewhere.

I figure that many Unsame Life members and friends have done parts or all of a similar journey, so welcome any tips you might offer. We already have some of the obvious things to see in mind. Graceland and the Grand Canyon are layups, but recommendations on great hotels, greasy-spoons, rib shacks, dive bars, honky tonks, blues joints, or large balls of yarn along the way would be fantastic!!!
