About Me:

I love to climb to high places. I seem to have focused recently on climbing active and dormant volcanoes in Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Bolivia (about 15 peaks ranging between 10,000 and 19,500). When I'm not outside, I teach middle school kids how to read and write and high school kids a philosophy class. I have two wonderful kids who enjoy being outside almost as much as I do.

Activities:

Mountaineering, rock climbing, reading great books and then talking about them, jumping out of airplanes, and teaching kids the joys of rapping down rock.

Favorite books:

Marx's Social Ontology, I Robot, The History of Chocolate, and the Betty Crocker Cookbook.

Favorite music:

Modest Mouse, Green Day, Yes, the Doobie Brothers, Bach, and Mozart.

Favorite movies:

Pappillon, anything by Charlie Chaplin, Woodstock (the Movie), Hair, the Great Gatsby, and Alice's Restaurant.

Favorite places:

The ridge connecting the volcanoes Acatenango and Fuego, anyplace that includes the family (except a shopping mall), the top of Cotopaxi on a clear day, the lake inside the volcano Ipala, and the top of Camel's Hump in Vermont.

Dislikes:

Anything wrapped around my wrists, clocks in general, closed doors, lots of jangling keys, too much change in my pocket, and sleeping.
